In 1966, Arrowhead Transfer, Inc. began its operation as a local trucking company offering pick up and delivery to and from the AK Steamship every other week along with gravel moving. In 1967, the company began to offer regular barge service to and from Japonski Island. Household moving services were an addition in 1968 as the company steadily expanded. Arrowhead Transfer became an agent of Foss Alaska Line, a tug and barge company, in 1970, unloading and delivering freight from the barge. The O’Connell Bridge was completed in 1972, creating access to Japonski Island by road. Lynden Inc. purchased Foss Alaska Line in 1985 and it became known as Alaska Marine Lines. Over the years Arrowhead Transfer, Inc. has become well known throughout southeast Alaska as the local agent for Alaska Marine Lines barge service and Lynden Transport water service, as well as the experts in moving household goods, providing warehousing, and performing local hauling services.
In 1993, Arrowhead Transfer, Inc. purchased Etolin Enterprises in Wrangell and Island Propane in Craig, forming the subsidiary of Arrowhead LP Gas. With its trucking background, Arrowhead LP Gas was well positioned to provide reliable transportation of propane throughout southeast Alaska. Existing employees were trained and several seasoned propane professionals were hired to benefit new propane customers. Additional locations were added at Petersburg in 1994, Kake in 1995, Juneau in 1996, Ketchikan in 2000, and Sitka in 2009.
Arrowhead Transfer, Inc. is proud of its long-term, regionally owned and operated status. It’s employees are an integral part of the local community, volunteering with local fire departments, sports teams, non-profit organizations and many other worthwhile projects. Arrowhead looks forward to serving the great people of southeast Alaska for many years to come.
